20th Neighborhood Business Alliance - Best New Construction Award
2009 Gerald R. Helmholdt Grand Award
Triangle Associates, Inc. built the original Hall Street Elementary School in 1955, then demolished the old building in 2009 to make way for this brand new facility.
The César E. Chávez Elementary School is located at the intersection of Hall and Grandville on the southwest side of Grand Rapids. Grand Rapids Public Schools acquired $11.5 million in cost savings during the first phase of a bond campaign approved by voters in 2004. This allowed the district to add reconstruction of Hall Elementary to a long list of needed projects.
Some of the unique features include:
The $8.95 million project includes 62,000 sq ft of new construction. The new LEED certified school is energy efficient and has larger classrooms, team rooms for collaboration, state-of-the-art library and fine arts rooms, air conditioning, a lunch room separate from the gymnasium, and a rooftop garden.
